Welcome to Passerine, I'm glad you're here.
My journey to founding Passerine started years ago when I was decorating my new row home in Washington, D.C. Finally in my own space, I wanted to intentionally curate a home that reflected my own aesthetic and values. I wanted to step back from seasonal trends and entire prepared looks from a big box store. I kept asking myself: "how can I make my home feel like mine, and not like identical to a store's show room?"
I found my answer when browsing an estate sale in New England some months later. A beautiful, blue-and-brown Persian Shiraz scatter rug caught my eye, stuffed underneath a sad, sagging chair. I rolled it out and was in love! That little rug made one thing clear: the right one-of-a-kind piece will jump out at you, and make you think, "that is so me!". It will ground a space and really make it feel yours.
My appreciation for vintage, one-of-a-kind textiles grew from there, as did my expertise in sourcing. After years of expensive trial-and-error, I have developed relationships with a handful of overseas rug merchants from whom I can carefully source authentic oriental rugs of unquestionable quality, handwoven by master artisans and tribal villagers alike, across Turkey, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and others. I launched Passerine to simplify your search for one-of-a-kind pieces that complete your home and make it uniquely yours.
