DESCRIPTION: Hezar-jerib kilims were handwoven by Kurdish villagers in Mazandaran region of northwestern Iran. This minimalist, pileless carpet style was only recently discovered by rug collectors in the late 1990's. Hezar-jarib kilims were originally designed to be used as protective covers to store more valuable pile carpets, including the pile carpets of Qajar palaces. Agrarian local villagers use them in far more adaptable ways: over felt rugs, as wall decorations or room dividers, or layered and scattered, in rooms with colorful cushions and household objects. They were woven originally as long strips, and are then cut up and selvage sewn together to make a multi-panel carpet. Unlike Turkish kilims, which are often a mix of wool, goat hair, hemp, and cotton, these Persian styles are 100% wool.

Though all of Passerine's Persian kilims come with a reinforced canvas backing, we recommend using rug pads to increase traction and cushion. Add a custom-sized rug pad to your order using order add-on the drop down above.
STAIN PROTECTION: For customers seeking the maximum protection of their investment, we recommend a professional application of Ultra-Guard's Fabric Protection solution. This in-home service is available nationwide for a wide range of furniture. For your convenience, we have enabled it to be selected at the time of your rug purchase. If selected as part of your rug order, Passerine will have the rug treated for you prior to shipping. For more information about this offering, click here.
CLEANING: All rugs are professionally cleaned prior to shipping. To maintain its condition, vacuum with suction only (no bristles). Spot clean with mild detergent and water only. If spot cleaning does not remove a stain, we recommend a professional cleaning. Never use a carpet cleaning machine to clean a vintage rug.
STORING: Always roll rugs when stored (folding for an extended time can weaken the rug's backing and cause the rug to stretch). Store in a dry environment.
Orders are shipped within 2-3 days (Monday-Friday) of order placement, unless Ultra-Guard Fabric Protection add-on services are selected. Orders which include Ultra-Guard Fabric Protection treatment will be shipped within 5-7 business days (Monday-Friday) of order placement, to allow sufficient time for rugs to be treated and to dry thoroughly. All orders are shipped via UPS or FedEx Ground. All orders will require signature at the time of delivery.
If you wish to have shipping expedited or have any special shipping needs, please email firstname.lastname@example.org immediately after purchasing. We will are happy to price out alternative shipping options for you and invoice you separately for the incremental cost in shipping.
